Apple 'Glowtime' event sees iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, Apple Watch unveilings: Recap

Apple launched its latest entry into the smartphone market and major upgrades in its wearables at the "It's Glowtime" event Monday.
The Silicon Valley giant unveiled the iPhone 16 range with on-device artificial intelligence capabilities across the models. Apple CEO Tim Cook said the new line "raises the bar for what an iPhone can do."
Entry-level AirPods were brought under the AirPods 4 banner with potential hearing aid and hearing test capabilities.
The Apple Watch Series 10 was also announced Monday, with a potential sleep apnea detection feature.
Though the announcement was not made in the presentation, the company separately announced that iOS 18 would be available Sept. 16.
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro availability
The iPhone 16 range will be available for preorder Friday and hit store shelves on Sept. 20.
iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
Apple revealed the premium range of the iPhone 16 model line with the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The models will have slightly larger screens, as the iPhone 16 Pro’s screen will measure 6.3 inches and the Pro Max model will have a 6.9-inch screen.
The line also sees the addition of the "capture button" that would open and operate the phone's camera.
The company said the Pro Max will have, “the best iPhone battery life ever.”
Speaking of cameras, Apple said the Pro and Pro Max models will be able to record video at 4K resolution at 120 frames per second.
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max have a new A18 Pro chip the company said is faster and more efficient than the base model.
iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone Pro Max camera
The premium end of the iPhone 16 line will have a new fusion camera, interface and ultrawide camera.
The Pro model will see 5x telephoto, with 120mm focal length that was only on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The camera control on the Pro line will allow the user to switch between lenses and apply photo editing in photo previews.
Apple said the Pro and Pro Max models will be able to record video at 4K resolution at 120 frames per second. Professional-style audio editing will be included in the phone.

The iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999 for the 128GB option and $1199 for iPhone 16 Pro Max for the 256GB option.

The new phones will be available in black, silver, gray and rose gold.
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus
The company revealed its latest smartphone offerings, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus.
The phones have a new A18 chip with 8GB of RAM to enable support of Apple Intelligence, the company's artificial intelligence software. The company said the chip can challenge some high-end desktop computers.
The new models also see the addition of an action button that was previously found on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
The new line sees the addition of a "capture button" that will open and operate the phone's camera. The button will be able to open the Camera app, zoom in and out, and bring the camera into focus before taking a picture.
The camera control button will enable "visual intelligence," an Apple Intelligence feature that can search from photos or send them to third party apps. The feature will be available "later this year."

The iPhone 16 starts at $799 for the 128 GB option and the 16 Plus starts at $899 for the 128 GB option
iPhone 16 and 16 Plus camera
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will have a 48-megapixel main camera with a 2x telephoto option and a 12MP autofocus ultrawide camera.
The cameras on the iPhone 16 were rearranged from the diagonal orientation of the iPhone 15 to the vertical layout seen in the last generation's Pro models.
The company said the cameras will balance light quality and image detail, improve macro-photography and support spatial video and photos.

The new phones will be available in black, teal, pink, blue and white.
Airpods Pro gets hearing loss test, hearing aid feature
Apple revealed the Airpods Pro will receive major updates to help wearers with hearing.
The company said it has developed a hearing test that will be included in iOS 18 as a result of a hearing study it conducted.
Apple said the study showed 75% of people diagnosed with hearing loss have not received the assistance they need. After taking the test the Airpods Pro will function as a hearing aid, according to the company.
Both the hearing test and the hearing aid capabilities are pending FDA approval, according to the company.
AirPods 4 pricing, availability
The company revealed the AirPods 4 with two models under the name.
The company said that it redesigned the shape and acoustic architecture with, “richer base and crystal clear highs, with personalized Spatial Audio.”
The AirPods 4 will have one model with noise cancellation and an entry-level model, updated for the first time since 2019, without it.
The AirPods 4 are available for preorder Monday with the non-noise-canceling model retailing for $129 and the noise-canceling model for $179.
Apple Watch Ultra gets new color
The Apple Watch Ultra saw a new black finish with matching band and a new Hermes band and watch face. The Ultra has no new hardware upgrades.
Apple Watch Series 10 release date, price
In a surprise, Apple Watch is the lead product of the event.
The Apple Watch Series 10 sees a larger case size and larger screen in the Apple’s latest horological release.
The watch will clock in at 9.7 mm thick.
Apple CEO Tim Cook praised previous iteration's impact on the health of its users in the product's introduction and the watch's health feature was a major part of the sales pitch. The watch will be able to monitor for sleep apnea, though the function is pending FDA approval.
The watches will be available for preorder Monday. They hit stores Sept. 20, starting at $399, with GPS + cellular for $499.

The "It's Glowtime" event, livestreamed at 1 p.m. EDT/10 a.m. PDT Monday from the Steve Jobs Theater at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, can be viewed on Apple's YouTube channel, Apple's website and the Apple TV app.
What will the iPhone 16 look like?
The iPhone 16 is expected to have larger screens on its Pro models and new camera features, such as a dedicated button for snapping photos, according to Bloomberg.
Apple is also set to roll out several artificial intelligence tools called Apple Intelligence, which the company highlighted during the Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
